Does anyone know if an Oracle 9 odbc client driver can work against a Oracle 7
server database?

If you install 9i ODBC driver on the Oracle 7 database may be it will work. You need to have on the client and on the server the same drivers - so they can both talk each other. Then the ODBC layer will communicate with Net8 to translate the oDBC API to the database.

If you don't want Net8 to be involved, then look at ODBC Wire Drivers. There are for Oracle on Windows, UNIX and Linux as well.

Hope that helps,
