any help about the client connection [message #56642]

I have a strange problem of oracle on linux, that is the client can not connect to server with the following error message (using tnsping service_name to get the result)
TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
while running the tnsping command against on the server side, the result is correct.

first check whether the listener is running.
plase post the complete error message (is there a TNS-12541 alongwith?) and your listener.ora & tnsnames.ora
